Occupational First Aid (Refresher) Course Overview

Occupational First Aid Refresher (includes CPR+AED) aims to equip you with knowledge and skills to provide first aid to adult casualties and to use the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely and effectively in the workplace. The course is aligned with the guidelines and methods stipulated by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC).

The course is a requirement for all Appointed First Aiders to fulfil the Workplace Safety and Health (First Aid) Regulations in their workplace.

To be eligible for the Occupational First Aid (Refresher) course, the participant must have an existing valid Occupational First Aid certificate. If you do not have a valid certificate or it has expired, you will be required to attend the Occupational First Aid (Full) course.

    Funding eligibility is subject to approval by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG). During registration, the applicable funding amount will be displayed, and you will be charged only for the balance payable after funding. Course enrolment is confirmed only upon payment of the balance payable. To qualify for SSG funding, participants must attend at least 75% of the course and pass all course assessments. Participants who do not meet these requirements will be required to pay the funded portion of the course fees, as funding will not be granted.

        More Information

        As part of the assessment requirements, participants must do 2 minutes of continuous chest compressions and this can be physically strenuous.  Participants experiencing the following medical conditions are not to participate.

        1. Now or has ever had or been bothered with any medical illnesses like back trouble, knee/joint/spinal injuries, heart trouble, high blood pressure, fainting spells, other physical conditions or other medical disabilities or serious illness
        2. Is currently pregnant

        If you opt out of the CPR+AED assessment during the course, you will not pass the course and instead, receive a Certificate of Attendance.

        Who Is Eligible?
        Singaporeans and Permanent Residents (PRs) above the age of 21 are eligible for SSG funding. The funding amount is between 50-70% of course fees, depending on age and income-level.

        Terms and conditions apply for funding. You must successfully complete the course in order to be eligible for funding. In the event you do not pass the course, you will need to make payment of the full course fee.

        • *Grant amount indicated here does not include absentee payroll (AP) funding as this is dependent on the trainee’s hourly basic salary (other than for trainees supported by surrogate Employers, where AP is computed on flat rate independent of salary).

        How Do I Apply for Funding?

        1. Appointed First Aiders
          • Where more than 25 persons are employed in a workplace, there shall be appointed in the workplace as first-aiders who shall be readily available during working hours. Such number of persons as complies with the ratio of one first-aider for every 100 persons employed in the workplace or part thereof (Workplace Safety and Health (First-Aid) Regulations).
        2. Safety officers
        3. Laboratory technicians
        4. Workers who operate with heavy machinery etc
        • Able to speak, read and understand English effectively
        • No medical heart and lung conditions or any physical disabilities and injuries that will prevent the participant from performing CPR

        Course Objectives
        At the end of the course the trainees will be able to:

        • Identify the underlying causes of different types of injuries
        • Administer basic immediate first aid without any medical help
        • Perform adult CPR and use the AED
        • Learn foreign body airway obstruction (i.e. choking) management for a conscious or unconscious adult

        Course Content
        The training syllabus and assessment guidelines meet the minimum standard set by Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council and course content as stipulated by Ministry of Manpower.

        • Management of medical emergencies
        • Wounds, bleeding and shock
        • Fractures and soft tissues injuries
        • Handling and transportation of the injured
        • Eye and other injuries
        • Burn injuries
        • Breathing difficulties
        • Unconscious casualty
        • First Aid Requirements in Factories and Other Workplace – The Workplace Safety & Health (First Aid) Regulations
        • Industrial Toxicology – Chemicals, Safety Data Sheet, Preventive and Precautionary measures with Case Studies
        • Safety and Accident Prevention – Workplace Safety & Health Act Safe Work Measures with Case Studies
        • CPR & use of AED

        Theory Assessment
        Participants will have to complete 40 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) test and need to score at least 80% (32/40) to successfully pass the course.

        If a participant fails the theory assessment, the participant will be given 1 more attempt at the theory assessment.

        Practical Assessment
        Participants will need to demonstrate that they are competent in the skills of

        1. Three bandaging techniques
        2. Oral questioning
        3. Perform CPR and use an AED safely

        If a participant fails the practical assessment, the participant will be given up to 2 more attempts at the practical assessment.
