CERT First Aid Course Overview
In CERT First Aid, you will learn to perform Basic First Aid, administer Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and use the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) machine on an unconscious casualty before help arrives.
This course is suitable for who are appointed Company Emergency Response Team (CERT) First Aiders at their workplace.
This course is eligible for 10 FSM CPD Points.
If you are a Sports Coach or Fitness Instructor, the course you should attend is Standard First Aid.

Funding eligibility is subject to approval by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG). During registration, the applicable funding amount will be displayed, and you will be charged only for the balance payable after funding. Course enrolment is confirmed only upon payment of the balance payable. To qualify for SSG funding, participants must attend at least 75% of the course and pass all course assessments. Participants who do not meet these requirements will be required to pay the funded portion of the course fees, as funding will not be granted.

More Information
As part of the assessment requirements, participants must do 2 minutes of continuous chest compressions and this can be physically strenuous. Participants experiencing the following medical conditions are not to participate.
- Now or has ever had or been bothered with any medical illnesses like back trouble, knee/joint/spinal injuries, heart trouble, high blood pressure, fainting spells, other physical conditions or other medical disabilities or serious illness
- Is currently pregnant
If you opt out of the CPR+AED assessment during the course, you will not pass the course and instead, receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Singaporeans and Permanent Residents (PRs) above the age of 21 are eligible for SSG funding. The funding amount is between 50-70% of course fees, depending on age and income-level.
Terms and conditions apply for funding. You must successfully complete the course in order to be eligible for funding. In the event you do not pass the course, you will need to make payment of the full course fee.

- Appointed First Aiders
- Individuals keen in learning first aid skills and knowledge
- Able to speak, read and understand English effectively
- No medical heart and lung conditions or any physical disabilities and injuries that will prevent the participant from performing CPR
Course Objectives
At the end of the course the trainees will be able to:
- Identify the underlying causes of different types of injuries
- Administer basic immediate first aid before medical help arrives
- Manage Foreign Body Airway Obstruction for conscious adults
- Perform CPR and use the AED
Course Content
The training syllabus and assessment guidelines are developed by Singapore Emergency Responder Academy (SERA).
- Principles and practices of first aid
- Management of medical emergencies
- Wounds, bleeding and shock
- Fractures and soft tissues injuries
- Breathing difficulties
- CPR+AED
Theory Assessment
Participants will have to complete 30 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) test and need to score at least 80% (24/30) to successfully pass the course.
If a participant fails the theory assessment, the participant will be given 1 more attempt at the theory assessment.
Practical Assessment
Participants will need to demonstrate that they are competent in the skills of
- Perform CPR and use an AED safely
If a participant fails the practical assessment, the participant will be given up to 2 more attempts at the practical assessment.

- Classroom-based learning with hands-on practice to reinforce skills performance with feedback from an instructor
- Course is developed and conducted in accordance with the guidelines set by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC)
- SERA uses Brayden and Laerdal QCPR Manikins (delivered from the US) that has unique and advanced features to enhance your learning experiences.
Upon successful completion of the course and receipt of payment, participants will receive an e-certificate via email.

Who should attend CERT First Aid?
This course is intended for appointed Company Emergency Response Team (CERT) first aiders who need basic first aid, CPR and AED skills for workplace emergencies.
Where can I check SCDF’s CERT first aid requirements?
See SCDF’s Company Emergency Response Team guidance and its CERT training requirements document. These explain the first-aid training expected of CERT members and the accepted certifications.
Does a CPR-only or AED-only course meet CERT first aid requirements?
SCDF’s published guidance excludes basic first aid courses covering only CPR or only AED, and first aid awareness or orientation courses. Check that your training covers the required first aid topics as well as CPR and AED.
How long is SERA’s CERT First Aid course?
SERA lists CERT First Aid as a one-day face-to-face programme with eight contact hours, including practical training and assessment.
What certification does SERA’s CERT First Aid course provide?
SERA lists a Certificate of Completion in CERT First Aid. Its CPR+AED module is accredited by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC) and valid for two years from completion.
Is CERT First Aid the same as Occupational First Aid?
They serve different training needs. CERT First Aid is intended for CERT first aiders; OFA addresses workplace first-aider training. Choose the course appropriate to your appointment and your organisation’s requirements.
