Child First Aid (Full) Course Overview

Child First Aid (Full) aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills to apply First Aid to a child and/or infant casualty. The course is in accordance to the guidelines and methodologies stipulated by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC). Course accreditation recognized by Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA).

    Funding eligibility is subject to approval by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG). During registration, the applicable funding amount will be displayed, and you will be charged only for the balance payable after funding. Course enrolment is confirmed only upon payment of the balance payable. To qualify for SSG funding, participants must attend at least 75% of the course and pass all course assessments. Participants who do not meet these requirements will be required to pay the funded portion of the course fees, as funding will not be granted.

    If you have less than 8 participants, we can open a class on your preferred date (subject to availability), conducted at SERA’s premises, but will keep the class open for public registrations.

        More Information

        As part of the assessment requirements, participants must do 2 minutes of continuous chest compressions and this can be physically strenuous.  Participants experiencing the following medical conditions are advised not to participant.

        1. Now or has ever had or been bothered with any medical illnesses like back trouble, knee/joint/spinal injuries, heart trouble, high blood pressure, fainting spells, other physical conditions or other medical disabilities or serious illness
        2. Is currently pregnant

        If you proceed with the course, please seek your doctor’s advice for the green light to continue, and produce the doctor’s letter. If you opt out of the CPR+AED assessment during the course, you will not pass the course and instead, receive a Certificate of Attendance.

        Who Is Eligible?
        Singaporeans and Permanent Residents (PRs) above the age of 21 are eligible for SSG funding. The funding amount is between 50-70% of course fees, depending on age and income-level.

        Terms and conditions apply for funding. You must successfully complete the course in order to be eligible for funding. In the event you do not pass the course, you will need to make payment of the full course fee.

        How Does It Work?

        1. Register for the course here and exit the Paypal page as you do not need to make payment at this stage
        2. Fill in the application form for funding here, with the access code being 2022SERA
        3. Wait for an email from SERA informing you of the funding outcome and balance payable. You will receive this email between 1-2 working days from date of application.
        4. Singaporeans can use their Skillsfuture Credits to make payment for the balance payable. Other payment methods are via PayNow or Paypal.

          • The Child First Aid Certification is one of the requirements for an individual to teach Child First Aid

        Child First Aid Course Requirements, by ECDA (Early Childhood Development Agency)

        Information is extracted from the Code of Practice for Early Childhood Development Centres, by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA), which is an autonomous agency jointly overseen by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF).

        4.4.1 The Key Personnel / Principal must have obtained the CFA certification.

        4.4.2 For Centres with Class A Licence only, there must be at least 3 programme staff (for infants only) who have obtained the CFA certification present in the Centre during operating hours, one of whom must be a Key Personnel or Principal. For Centres with more than 50 infants at any one time, there must be an additional staff, during operating hours, who has obtained the CFA certification for every 50 infants or part thereof.

        4.4.3 For Centres with Class A Licence, together with Class B or C Licence, there must be at least one Infant Educator or Programme Helper (for infants only) who has obtained the CFA certification present in the Centre during operating hours for the Class A Licence. For Centres with more than 50 infants at any one time, there must be an additional staff during operating hours, who has obtained the CFA certification for every 50 infants or part thereof.

        4.4.4 For Centres with Class B or C Licence (regardless of whether it holds Class A Licence), there must be at least three staff who have obtained the CFA certification present in the Centre during programme hours. For Centres with more than 150 children per session at any one time, there must be an additional programme staff who has obtained the CFA certification for every additional 50 children or part thereof.

        4.4.5 For Centres with Class B or C Licence (regardless of whether it holds Class A Licence), there must be at least one staff who has obtained the CFA certification present in the Centre during non-programme hours

        • Able to speak, read and understand English effectively
        • No medical heart and lung conditions or any physical disabilities and injuries that will prevent the participant from performing CPR

        Course Objectives
        At the end of the course the trainees will be able to:

        • Recognize a medical emergencies involving child and infant casualties
        • Activate the appropriate emergency response and follow the Emergency Action Principles
        • Perform Child CPR and Infant CPR
        • Perform the appropriate first aid treatment for Foreign Body Airway Obstruction on a child and infant (conscious and unconscious)
        • Identify the common medical illnesses in children and infants

        Course Content
        The training syllabus and assessment guidelines meet the minimum standard set by Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council.

        • Wound Management
        • Unconsciousness
        • Musculoskeletal Injuries
        • Common Child Injuries
        • Child and Infant CPR

        Participants are required to attend 100% of the course duration.

        Theory Assessment
        Participants will have to complete 30 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) test and need to score at least 80% (24/30) to successfully pass the course.

        If a participant fails the theory assessment, the participant will be given 1 more attempt at the theory assessment.

        Practical Assessment
        Participants will need to demonstrate that they are competent in the skills of

        1. Relief of Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) in a Conscious and Unconscious child and infant
        2. Two bandaging techniques
        3. Application of EpiPen, Inhaler with Spacer
        4. Perform CPR and use an AED safely

        If a participant fails the practical assessment, the participant will be given up to 2 more attempts at the practical assessment.
