About First Aid for Elderly

First Aid for Elderly is designed for caregivers or domestic helpers who want to learn more about how to respond to an elderly if they are injured or suddenly taken ill.

According to the UN’s 2017 World Population Ageing report, Singapore’s population stood at 5.71 million as of 2017, consisting of 855,000 people under the age of 15, and 886,000 people aged 65 and above. Therefore there is a growing demand for caregivers or domestic helpers to learn how to respond to such medical emergency.

First Aid for Elderly will equip you with the basic skills and knowledge to render first aid to an elderly when called upon. In addition, you will also learn to recongize the symptoms of common disease for the elderly. This course is suitable for individual who do not require an accredited certification.

In Singapore, falls are the most common cause of fractures among elderly. Through the course, you will also be able to learn some of the tips to prevent falls as well.

Every 32 minutes, an elderly person turns up at a public hospital emergency department because of an injury from a fall. Each month, about 100 seniors find themselves in hospital, staying a week or more because of such injuries.

And already the number of hip fractures among people aged 50 and older treated at public hospitals has gone up from 1,900 in 2004 to 2,500 last year – with half of them involving seniors aged 80 and up.
